The Sunday Update | January 17, 2016

January 17th

There were people living in a pluralistic society where being identified as a Christian was a bit intimidating. With so many different viewpoints and religions vying for the public’s attention, Christians were tempted to waffle on their commitment to Christ. Sound familiar? It’s not that different from today in our culture. Into that troublesome time steps the author of Hebrews to speak to the reality that our lives are all about Jesus. Sunday we look at why it’s so important to pay attention to that reality and what a difference being intentional about our faith can make in our lives. Read Hebrews 1:1 – 2:4 for some good preparation for Sunday’s message.

We are also looking forward to a report regarding the great time our Mexico Shoebox Team had during the after-Christmas week.

Sermon-based small group sign ups

Our winter quarter begins this week of 1/17. Committed to Connecting with one another, Applying God’s word in our lives, Praying for one another, and Serving one another, these groups have been very successful in the lives of their members. We have a few spots open and a list that we can use to start a new group if there is interest.

VMV Workshop Report – Business Meeting – 1/31 @ 6 PM

We took a good first step to charting a course for our future as our Group of 50 gathered to discuss the state of the church, our strengths and weaknesses, and our potential for the future. Be sure to put our periodic business meeting on your calendar, January 31 at 6 PM to hear a good report from Ken Wenzel!

One-Year, One Bible Participants –

A number have spoken to me about the encouragement that time alone with God is bringing in their lives. We had six more join us this week for a total of 139 committed to read through the Bible this year. Let’s encourage one another by sharing the blessings that are coming our way through these times. Click here to go online to sign up, it’s not too late. Click here to let me know if you need information .

I had a fantastic time skiing with some of the men of CEFC on our men’s ski trip. I’m reminded of the great times that connect us inside and outside of the church gatherings. I’m praying that tomorrow will be a special day in which we look to connect in one another’s lives and deepen our relationship with Jesus Christ.

In Christ,
Jim
