Good Friday: The Cup

Welcome to Chapel City Church! As we gather together to celebrate Good Friday, you might notice a different tone than our typical Sunday worship service. There is a somber tone to the songs. Our time in God’s word will focus on the cup of suffering that Christ drank on our behalf. We will spend time reflecting on the serious nature of sin, and on its deadly consequences. That doesn’t mean that we forget or ignore the joy and triumph of the resurrection. We anticipate Easter Sunday and all that it brings. But, in order to understand the exaltation of Sunday, we have to come to grips with the reality of what makes Good Friday truly good. Tonight, we remember that the wages of sin is death. Tonight, we remember that because God is holy and just, someone had to pay the price for OUR sins. And tonight, we remember that Jesus Christ, the only one with no sin to bear, took on our guilt, our shame, and our death as he went obediently to the cross.
