Peace on Earth

Peace on Earth

This is the second week of Advent, and today we light the candle of peace. We sing songs about peace on earth and goodwill toward men, but we know that real peace is hard to come by. Nations are in conflict, and always have been. There is significant division along so many lines, even within our own country. And, if that wasn’t enough, we are often a people with restless hearts. Peace seems like a distant dream on just about every front. And yet, Isaiah prophesied about a child who would be born as the Prince of Peace. Paul tells us that Jesus has brought about peace between men and God through the work of Jesus Christ. But what kind of peace has he won for us? Is this peace just a hope for some far away future, or can it really make a difference in our lives right now? We would love to know how we can be praying for you.

For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.
Colossians 1:19-20
