Security & Suffering

Security & Suffering

This week has been one of significant trial and testing in the lives of many associated with our church body. Dozens of people were or remain displaced from their homes. Additionally, we have a family that lost their home with very little warning. In the face of suffering, where do we turn? How do we think rightly about God’s power and goodness, yet wrestle with the reality of pain in the life of his people? In 1 Peter, we have looked extensively at the idea of suffering as we travel through a world that is not our home. This week, we continue that journey. Although Peter specifically addresses the idea of suffering persecution for Christ, the same truths that provide stability and comfort in those circumstances help arm us for right thinking in all suffering. We would love to know how we can be praying specifically for you. Additionally, we will make specific needs and opportunities to give toward relief for those impacted by the Mountain Fire available to you.

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice with exultation. 1 Peter 4:12-13
