Temporary Treasures

Temporary Treasures

This week we will open up James chapter 5 together. This chapter begins with a severe warning against those who would abuse their wealth. But before we assume that James has it out for rich people, or that it doesn’t apply to us because WE aren’t rich, let’s consider the context. We know that conflict is driven by selfish desires. We have seen how there can be a prideful attitude in the way that we make our plans. Tomorrow isn’t a guarantee, and ultimately our time doesn’t belong to us. So what happens when plans to make a profit work out? What happens when we achieve what we would consider success? Do we walk in that same measure of humility, or do we find security in our temporary treasures. This passage isn’t a condemnation of wealth, it’s a condemnation of wickedness that’s demonstrated in wealth. So where do we find security? How are we to view and hold the resources that God has entrusted to us? We would love the opportunity to answer any questions that you have, and to know how we can be praying for you specifically.

Your riches have rotted and your garments have become moth-eaten. Your gold and your silver have rusted; and their rust will be a witness against you and will consume your flesh like fire. It is in the last days that you have stored up your treasure!
