We are working through the Book of Hebrews, and the author is reminding us of how much better Jesus is. Better than what? Better than anything! And last week he started to open up the reasons that Jesus is a better priest than anyone who served under the law. That priesthood was based on your family line, and only lasted as long as you did. But Jesus is a better high priest who serves in that role permanently. But what makes him a better high priest? What kind of hope does that give his people? And if God was the one who designed the law in the first place, then why does anything have to change? We hope that you are encouraged as you worship with us.
And inasmuch as it was not without an oath (for they indeed became priests without an oath, but He with an oath through the One who said to Him,
“The Lord has sworn
And will not change His mind,
‘You are a priest forever’”)
so much the more also Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant.
