The Model of a Better Ministry

The Model of a Better Ministry

Welcome to Chapel City Church! After a severe warning that covered most of chapter 5 and all of chapter 6, the author of Hebrews picks up where he left off. He was concerned that they weren’t equipped to deal with some of the weighty arguments that he needed to make to show them the greatness of Jesus as our high priest. But he trusts that they will press on toward maturity. And in light of that pursuit, he begins to explain one of the most obscure Old Testament figures that we have in scripture. Who is Melchizedek? Why does a man mentioned in just a few verses in Genesis now form the focal point of the author of Hebrews’ argument about the high priesthood of Jesus Christ? And how does knowing this give us great hope and confidence with regard to our own salvation? We would love to know how to pray for you specifically, or whether there are questions that you have about our church and the ministry that we do here.

For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham as he was returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, to whom also Abraham apportioned a tenth part of all the spoils, was first of all, by the translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then also king of Salem, which is king of peace.  Hebrews 7:1-2
