Where Conflict Comes From, part 1

Where Conflict Comes From, part 1

Welcome to Chapel City Church! We would love to know how we can be praying specifically for you. If you have a prayer request or praise for what God has done, we would love to hear about it. Please consider filling out one of the connection cards available every Sunday, or reach out to our office through phone or email. This week we will open up James chapter 4. In some of the most direct language in the New Testament, James calls us to examine the conflict in our lives. We are sinful people who live and worship with other sinful people, so conflict will happen at one point or another. But where does it come from? While we would like to blame our circumstances or the actions of other people, James makes it clear that the quarrels and fights that we find ourselves in come because of our own sinful responses. To put it directly, we are selfish people who want what we want, when we want it. And because our desires are unfulfilled and our expectations are unmet, we contend with each other. Sadly, our conflict is an outworking of a heart problem. We often choose to worship ourselves rather than the God who made us and called us his own. But what does that look like and why is it a problem? And if this is where conflict comes from, what are we supposed to do about it?

You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is
hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.     James 4:4
