October 25th
There are those messages that hit home with such force that there is an instant response. Such was the message of Haggai. His ministry didn’t last long – only a few months; but it changed the priorities of a people! Misplaced priorities were costing them dearly and we will see how changed priorities can lead to changed hearts – in them and in us. Take some time to read these three short chapters before service and prepare for a great time together.
Special Business Meeting Report
Last Sunday the Board of Elders called a special business meeting to vote on the following motion: “Shall the Camarillo Evangelical Free Church be publicly known as Chapel City Church?” There were 183 votes cast and the motion passed with a 2/3 majority.
What happens next? For the immediate future, all continues as it has been including our identity in the community and writing checks to the church. We still identify as Camarillo EvFree during the transition. Our new name is not secret but it is not public either. (NOTE: While our name changes, we are NOT leaving the Evangelical Free Church of America, our denominational affiliation.)
Our goal is to roll out the name when we have made appropriate changes to our website, our materials, and our signage, among other things. We will also work to address some legitimate concerns that arose in our forums: to enhance the familiarity of our new name, to tie it to our goals to an effective witness and godly influence in Camarillo, and to get used to it as a congregation. Sometime after the first of the year we hope to have a wonderful dedication with appropriate coverage in the community. In the meantime we will keep you informed of our progress.
I am praying that God will bless us in our study tomorrow and will move us forward together in this time of transition.
In Christ,
Jim
