The Sunday Update | April 17, 2016

April 17th

Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote The Cost of Discipleship in which he spoke of costly grace – a compelling statement of the demands of sacrifice. What we don’t realize is that for the follower of Jesus Christ, the cost of rebellion is much higher.

Foolish living leads to lost confidence. We often talk about the high cost of following Jesus; Sunday we talk of the steeper cost when we don’t. I’m praying that it will be a message that moves us to greater devotion to Christ. Check out some suggestions below to prepare for a great time on Sunday.

Connect! – May 1st – Pastor Jim & Barbara’s house – 5 pm

If you are interested in joining Chapel City Church or are on the path toward membership, you can sign up here or mark your registration slip. We’ll start with dinner at 5 and wind up about 8 pm. We’ll provide child care so let us know if it’s needed. Click here to register. Once you’ve signed up we’ll send out more details.

All-city prayer – Wednesday 12 pm – 1 – Chapel City Church

We had a great time in the Yellow House last Wednesday with believers from various churches in Camarillo on Wednesday praying for our city and our nation. We are building toward the National Day of Prayer on May 5th. If you are available, come join us!

National Day of Prayer – Thursday May 5 – Constitution Park – 6:15 pm

Mark your calendars for a great concert of prayer with Christians all over Camarillo as we partner with people all across our nation in this day of prayer for our nation. Dress warm, bring a lawn chair, and prepare for a great evening together.

Last week we talked about why we gather together as a body of believers. Here’s a challenge. Instead of just waking up on Sunday and just “getting ready for church,” why not really prepare?

  1. Pray that God will use you in someone’s life to encourage them in their life and their walk with God.
  2. Pray that God will use someone or some aspect of the morning to specifically encourage, affirm, or challenge you in your walk with God.
  3. Read over Hebrews 10:26-39 to prepare your heart for God’s word.

A little prep time goes a long way!

In Christ,
Jim
