The Sunday Update | December 20, 2015

December 20th

We live in a world of disposables. Repair facilities are increasingly becoming a thing of the past when we buy new instead of fixing. Sometimes that’s the way we feel about ourselves, or worse, that’s the way others treat us when we no longer meet their needs.

Embedded in the genealogy of Jesus in Matthew 1 we find there are no disposable people. There was one who no one would want to claim in their family tree. She was shamefully abused and had to bear the unjust brunt of abuse and innuendo at the hands of a powerful man; yet in the family tree of Jesus, she maintains an honored position. Read 2 Samuel 11 for background on the message that flows from her at Christmas time. In Jesus there are no disposable people.

Through the Bible in a Year – Now’s the time to sign up!

Next year at this time we want YOU to be getting close to completing your goal of reading through the Bible along with your church family. The benefits of time alone with God and the changes it brings will be a great encouragement in your life. There are two plans: the Classic reads chapter-by-chapter, while the Chronological breaks it up according to historical flow. Here’s what you need to do to participate.

  • Register online as a participant by clicking here.
  • Purchase your classic Bible on your own here. (the One Year Bible, regular or Kindle)
  • Purchase your chronological Bible on your own here. (The Daily Bible, regular or Kindle)
  • Other versions are available online if you prefer; let us know if you need help ordering! If you order on your own, please still register online so we can encourage one another. We already have a number of participants so don’t miss out.

Staff Love Gift

December is the month the elders set aside for our church to say thank you to our staff for the great ministry they provide. If you would like to contribute please use the gift envelopes at the rear of the sanctuary or designate “staff love gift” on your checks.

Christmas Eve Services 3 & 4:30 PM

Join us for our special family services on Thursday. We’ll have carols, special music from our kids, and a meaningful time to thank God for his unparalleled gift to us all.

Chapel City Church Update

The necessary paperwork has been filed and the design of our outside sign has been finalized and is ready to present to the city. We are working hard on web and social media design and are getting ready for the roll out. Everything is keying on the city’s approval of the sign and it’s construction so, we are pointing toward early February for a special Sunday celebration to inaugurate our new name. We are looking forward to a great launch!

Be sure to join us for a great Sunday as we look at Christmas from an unusual vantage point. I am convinced this message hits many of us right where we live and shows us the new meaning we have in life through Jesus Christ. He really does make a difference in our lives!

In Christ,
Jim
