The Sunday Update | February 1, 2015

We all trust something. What we trust is that thing we crave when things go really wrong, maybe as bad as they can get. If someone asks us (as followers) what we trust, we casually answer, “Of course, we put our trust in God!” but do we really. As we look at trials and temptations – two related but very different things – we will see a strange insight that might reveal just-below-the-surface attitudes. Those insights can lead us to add real meaning to a verbal statement of trust.

As we take the communion tomorrow, we thing of the God, the giver of all good gifts, and the best gift that he has given us!

We also look forward to the participation of some of our younger students who will help lead us in worship. What a great lesson to us and to them to see our “first worshipers” as move us to worship.

Save the Date Men’s Spring Retreat – April 17-19, 2015

Why have a men’s retreat? Because it becomes one of those connecting points where we get beyond a “how are ya?” It is a weekend at Forest Home Ojai that can literally change a life! Why do we leave camps for the young!

Todd Smith from Crossroads Community Church in Valencia will speak. If you would like to get a feel for him you can check out a video here, or an audio here. He’s bringing insight into “getting behind the Shepherd” from Psalm 23.

Cost is $195 for a weekend that will give you opportunities to know the men around you, get some new perspective on the battles we’re facing, and to understand what it really means to connect to Jesus Christ. Could we see 40 – 50 percent of our men involved? We can if you go, talk it up with your friends here at CEFC, and point us to men who might like to go but can’t because of difficult finances.

Trials, temptations, and trust’ they’re all related. It is so crucial that we understand these concepts because we are often unaware that we are approaching a spiritual meltdown. I pray that God will open our eyes and give this special word tomorrow. “If any lack wisdom, you should ask of God who gives generously to all and without finding fault and it will be given.”

In Christ,
Jim
