The Sunday Update | March 8, 2015

Tomorrow we set aside our studies in James and we look forward to a great blessing as both Patrick Murphy and Ray Wall team teach in our morning services. Ray will be heading up our sermon-based small group ministries kicking off the week of April 5th. We’ll be looking into Acts 2:42-47 as we look at the key elements that were present in the early days of the church and that serve as a north star for the values that to this day still inspire churches to be what God calls churches to be. I look forward to this pace-setting day that reminds us of our calling.

Announcements & Updates

An update regarding Barbara

Barbara and I have been deeply touched by your prayers and expressions of concern for her and thank you very much. She was scheduled for surgery last Friday but a late night call on Thursday brought the news that it had to be postponed because the surgeon was ill. It was a bit disappointing but it beats going forward with less-than-optimal conditions. Surgery to remove part or all of her right kidney is now scheduled for Thursday 3/12. I know it’s a bit unusual to put health updates in the broadcast but it seems the best way to get the word out to so many who are praying!

Elementary School Parents

In June, one of our children’s ministries workers Kristen Foster is heading to Tanzania with Kidz at Heart to train children’s Sunday School teachers. This gives us a great opportunity to involve our kids in a children-to-children ministry through Tanzanian teachers. It also gives a teachable moment on how children can get personally involved in global outreach. Darcie King, our Director of Children’s Ministries (DCM) will be rolling out this project in the worship services and in the kids’ classes so please make a special effort to be there and encourage your children to get involved.

I think that Sunday is an important time as we are reminded about some of the most fundamental values that need to be present in a church. I pray that we will continue to foster these traits and to enhance them at every opportunity.

In Christ,
Jim
