Petitions to God can either be self-centered or others-centered. In the second half of the Lord’s Prayer we see that the words “us” and “we” are as important as the word “you” was in the first half. Once we recognize God for who he is, it is entirely appropriate for us to bring our own needs and requests to him in prayer. On Sunday Patrick will explore this idea and provide and opportunity for us to write a prayer of our own, in the way Jesus taught.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. (Matthew 6:11-13 ESV)
