Putting Our Sin to Death

Putting Our Sin to Death

There is good news and bad news this week. The good news is that the passage that we are studying is fairly easy to understand. The language is clear, the words are recognizable, and the flow of thought is very consistent. The bad news is that there is no mistaking what this passage says about sin, and about our involvement in that sin. This week, we look at “Putting Sin to Death.” Whether we know it or not, whether we like it or not, every Christian is involved in a constant conflict. Our struggle isn’t against flesh and blood, but against the world, the flesh, and the Devil. The great tragedy is that we have been lulled into the idea that we are not something other than soldiers. And so we make peace with the world, we accommodate the flesh, and we ignore the schemes of the Devil. And we do this to our own peril. So how do we begin to deal with sin in a biblical way? How do we view it for what it is, and then execute it according to the means that God has given us?

Put to death therefore what is earthly in you… Colossians 3:1a
