The Line of the King

The Line of the King

We are glad that you have come to worship with us today. We are just getting underway in our study of the Gospel of Matthew. Last week we went through some introductory material, and we looked at the first group of names in Matthew’s genealogy. We saw that Jesus Christ was the promised son of David, a promise that looked for a king who would rule and reign as no other king in history. Today we will be working through some of those other names in the list that Matthew gives us. What about those kings that came after David? What made the good ones good and the bad ones bad? How can a list of names help us understand not only the place of Jesus in history, but the expectation of the King who would sit on David’s throne? And how does any of this apply to us now? We hope that you will be challenged and encouraged as we study together. If you have any questions, we would love to talk with you!

And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever. 2 Samuel 7:16
