Responding to the King: Worship & Wrath, Part 2

Responding to the King: Worship & Wrath, Part 2

We are so glad that you have made us a part of your week. We are working through the second chapter of Matthew’s gospel, and we are seeing two very different responses to Jesus Christ. On one hand, you have the Magi who come in worship. These men of some wealth and reputation recognize that the child that they have come to worship is greater than they are, and they respond appropriately. On the other hand, you have the wrathful response of wicked King Herod. However, his anger and malice are not a surprise to God, nor is his murderous plot. As he has already done several times already, Matthew will point us back to the fact that God is not only able to bring about his promises, but that he has ordained every aspect of the coming of the Son. We hope that you are encouraged to see clearly who Jesus is, and that you too will respond in worship and obedience. If there is a way that we can be ministering to you or praying for you, please let us know.

Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.” And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, “Out of Egypt I called my son.”
