Preparing the Way for the King

Preparing the Way for the King

For the last few weeks, we have worked through the first two chapters of Matthew’s gospel where we are introduced to who Jesus is. He is the promised son of Abraham and David. He is the Son of God, the one who will save his people from their sins. And he is Immanuel, God with us. We have seen the initial reactions to those claims in the worship of the wise men and the wrath of king Herod. As we come to chapter 3, we begin to look at the ministry of the king. And Matthew opens the ministry of Christ by introducing us to a man named John the Baptist. While we are all familiar with him by name, we need to understand the critical role that he played. How is John connected to the promises of the messiah made in the Old Testament? What characterized his ministry, and what was the heart of his message? We would love to answer any questions that you might have, and to know how we can be praying for you. Please reach out to us if we can come alongside you in any way!

In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Matthew 3:1-2
