The Fire & The Flood

The Fire & The Flood

Welcome to our time of worship together here at Chapel City Church. We are glad that you have joined us, and we would love to know how we can be praying for you. If you have questions about the church, about our staff, or about your faith, please reach out to us!

This morning we will open up the book of Nahum together. This short book is written to the wicked people of Nineveh, the center of power for the Assyrian empire. We are going to be reminded that God is holy, and he will deal with sin. The minor prophets have reminded us regularly that God deals with the sins of his people. However, Nahum speaks of the righteous anger of God against all sin, not just the sins of a particular people or place. This makes sense though—He is the God of creation, and he owns all things. So, what do we understand about this holy God? Do we see him as wrathful? Merciful? Angry? Patient? Is there a way for those things to be present at the same time?

The Lord is good,
    a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
    But with an overflowing flood
he will make a complete end of the adversaries,
    and will pursue his enemies into darkness

Nahum 1:7-8
