Transformed from Blindness to Sight

The past week or so has been a difficult time for many of us. We have seen tragedy and terror strike close to home. We have seen fires and all of the uncertainty that comes with natural disaster. And yet, as we saw last week, we are called to be a people who are faithful rather than fearful. That kind of transformation is only possible through the work of Jesus Christ. But how do we cling to faith in the midst of fearful circumstances? If the miracles of Jesus were such a public display, then how could people miss who He really was? How could they see, but fail to really see? The answer is because they were spiritually blind. Their physical eyes were functioning, but spiritually they remained in darkness. Jesus came to bring men from darkness to light; to transform them from spiritual blindness to spiritual sight. This week we will look at the healing of a man born blind. We will be confronted with the power of Jesus who is able to heal physical blindness. But we will also be forced to think through the issue of spiritual blindness and to ask ourselves if, although we claim to see, we remain spiritually in the dark.

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
