2021 Good Friday

2021 Good Friday

Thank you for joining us for this very special service. You might notice something of a more somber tone in our slides and even in the passages that we read today. This isn’t because we are depressed or without joy. Rather, it’s a reflection of how very important it is that we understand what makes Good Friday so “good” to begin with. This is the day that we remember the cross of Jesus Christ. The day that we remember the terrible consequence of sin, and how that consequence had to be paid by someone. Jesus Christ, the only perfect man to ever walk the earth, was killed for sins that were not his own. In the greatest injustice in human history, the spotless Lamb of God would take on the stain of the sins of his people. But that injustice is precisely why we call it Good Friday. Without this sacrifice, without this mercy extended to us, we would be left rightly responsible to pay the debt of sin that we owe. Today, we reflect on the high cost of sin and reality that our sin separated us from the God who made us. And in the same breath, we rejoice in fact that the cross and the grave are not the end of the story. We lift our heads in expectation and anticipation of the resurrection, Christ’s victory over sin and death!
