A Hopeful Hosanna

A Hopeful Hosanna

We are so glad that you are worshiping with us today. This week is a special time of preparation. As we look forward to celebrating the resurrection of Christ, it’s essential that we understand who and what we are celebrating. Roughly two thousand years ago, Jesus Christ rode into Jerusalem in what we know as the triumphal entry. The crowds cheered Him, the religious elite feared Him, and His disciples wondered whether this might be the culmination of all that they had hoped for. But this was not the coming of a king in power over Rome and victory over physical oppression. This was the coming of the king in power over sin and victory over the grave. This week, we will look at that Palm Sunday and understand the power and the promise of Jesus. But ultimately, we will come to understand what the crowds missed; that this was not just a prophet, not just a teacher, and not just another political leader. This was Jesus, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, the Son of God who has come to deliver His people.

And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” Matthew 21:9
