Correction & Kindness

Correction & Kindness

Thank you for joining us for our time of worship here at Chapel City Church. As we close the book of Amos, we are going to see the fullness of God’s justice and mercy. Because he is holy, sin must be dealt with. Amos takes us through the failures of Israel as they refuse to submit to what God has called them to be and to do. They do religious things, but their god is money and comfort. They have been called to love their neighbors and to care for those in need, but they use and oppress the vulnerable for their own gain. Although God has waited for generations, he will no longer tolerate the rebellion of his people. And that should be the end of the story. But God is not done with Israel. Their judgment will not lead to their destruction, but to their eventual restoration. What a tender reminder of the mercy of God poured out on ruined sinners!

“In that day I will raise up
the booth of David that is fallen
and repair its breaches,
    and raise up its ruins
and rebuild it as in the days of old,
that they may possess the remnant of Edom
and all the nations who are called by my name,”
declares the Lord who does this.

Amos 9:11-12
