Prepare Him Room: Peace

Prepare Him Room: Peace

We are moving through our Advent series called “Prepare Him Room.” Last week we lit the candle of hope and remembered the hope that comes from the faithfulness of God. He promised a redeemer and king over His people, and that promise finds its fulfillment in Jesus Christ. This week, we light the candle of peace. We live in a time where peace is a hard thing to come by. That’s obvious if we look at the news and evaluate international relationships and even our own domestic politics, but the lack of peace goes much deeper than that. In a season where we sing about peace, many of us struggle to actually live out that peace. There is too much to do, there are too many people that we have to see, there are too many expectations to uphold. And so we just close our eyes, hold on tight, and pray to survive until January. What a tragedy to celebrate the birth of Christ and not know peace. After all, didn’t he promise to leave peace to His people? Wasn’t he the promised prince of peace? This morning, we are going to be reminded of just how deep our need for peace goes. Our greatest need isn’t peace with people or even peace within our hearts, although both of those are good and necessary. Our greatest need was peace between us and the God who created us. It’s THAT peace that leads to genuine peace in the rest of our lives. It’s THAT peace that is central to understanding why Christmas matters. We would love to know how we can be praying for you or ministering to you. Please reach out and let us know!

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called

Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
