Responding to Righteousness

Responding to Righteousness

Welcome to our time of worship here at Chapel City Church! We would love to answer any questions that you might have, and to know how we can be praying for you. This week will bring us to the conclusion of Habakkuk. It’s a wonderful little book that we don’t know as well as we should. In Chapter 1, Habakkuk posed some serious questions to the Lord that he served. Did God still care, and was he right in his plan to judge his people? In chapter 2, we worked through God’s answer. His timing and character are perfect. He will act in exactly the right way at exactly the right time. But how will Habakkuk respond to that answer? When the reality is that his people will be judged, and even decimated by a powerful enemy? When the restoration promises are a long way off? What we find is that Habakkuk chapter 3 is a prayer to the Lord. It’s a humble response that looks at what is coming and determines to worship God, even in the most severe trial.

Though the fig tree should not blossom,
    nor fruit be on the vines,
the produce of the olive fail
    and the fields yield no food,
the flock be cut off from the fold
    and there be no herd in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the Lord;
    I will take joy in the God of my salvation.
God, the Lord, is my strength;
    he makes my feet like the deer’s;
    he makes me tread on my high places.

Habakkuk 3:17-19
