Signs, Spirits, & a Sinful Generation

Signs, Spirits, & a Sinful Generation

Welcome to our time of worship here at Chapel City Church. We are thankful that you are here, and we would love to know how we can be praying for you during this time. As we come to God’s word this morning, we will be back in Matthew chapter 12. We have seen growing opposition to Jesus, particularly from the religious leaders. This week, we will see the scribes and Pharisees demand a sign from Jesus. Despite having every proof of who he is, their hard hearts continue to reject the messiah. Jesus will refuse their request, but will then point back into the Old Testament to the book of Jonah to speak of the coming judgement on these sinful men. Jesus will also use a parable about a demon to illustrate the great danger that faces not only the pharisees, but the surrounding crowds that still do not respond rightly to Jesus Christ. We hope that you are encouraged in your faith, and that God’s word reminds you once again of His majesty and faithfulness. Please reach out to us if you have any questions that we can answer!

But he answered them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Matthew 12:39-40
