A Tree & its Fruit

A Tree & its Fruit

This week we will move back into Matthew 12. The people have been given every proof that Jesus Christ is the promised messiah. But the crowds are skeptical and the Pharisees are openly hostile. They know that he has power, but they have now claimed that his power is drawn from Satan himself! Jesus has condemned them for speaking against the Holy Spirit, but why does it matter? Why is it that their words are judged so harshly? As we move on in Matthew’s gospel, we are going to be reminded that words ultimately reveal the heart. The crowds, the readers, and the church needed to be reminded that what we speak will clearly demonstrate who we are.

For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

Matthew 12:34b
