The King: Rejected & Received

The King: Rejected & Received

As we come to the end of Matthew 11, we are going to be faced with a growing divide in Matthew’s Gospel. The proof of who Jesus Christ is has been given time and time again. His birth makes it clear, his genealogy makes it clear, his teaching makes it clear, and his miracles make it clear. We spent time looking at how John the Baptist was the promised forerunner of the messiah. If we get John right, then we understand rightly who Jesus is. But what is the response to that body of truth? What do we see from the cities and towns of Galilee where most of Jesus’ ministry has taken place? Some respond, some are violently opposed, but most are essentially apathetic. What is the cost of failing to repent as the king commands? How does the failure of the people compare with the wickedness of the time, or even great sins of the past? When we talk about God’s justice and judgment, is there any hope? We pray that as we work through God’s word you will be convicted, encouraged, and brought to an increased understanding of who God is and what He has done. If there are questions that we can answer or ways that we can be praying for you specifically, please reach out and let us know!

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Matthew 11:29-30
