We are thankful that you have come to worship with us today. As we come to the end of Matthew 13, we are reminded of the divide that has taken place. There are those who hear every word and see every work of Christ, but who remain unchanged. They may admire his teaching and stand astonished at his power, but they refuse to come in faith and repentance into his kingdom. And then there are those who are called disciples. Their faith is far from perfect, and their understanding is incomplete at best, but they know that this Jesus is the promised messiah and they are willing to lay everything down in order to follow him. As Jesus closes this teaching section, he does so with a parable about a dragnet. But how does this warning about the future apply to the disciples and us? How does the unfolding of the narrative after that parable illustrate the truths of that parable?
