Thank you for joining us for our time of worship together today. We are so glad that you are here! As we come into a new year, we also return to Matthew’s gospel. As we work our way through chapter 10, we are at something of a pivot within the book. Up to this point, the King and His kingdom have been presented to the people. His credentials have been demonstrated through his birth, his teaching, and his power. But from this point on, we will see an increasing rejection of the King. And with that rejection comes the delay of the kingdom. The King is sending out his workers into the harvest, and there are times when that ministry will be welcomed. But the majority of the world will remain hostile to the gospel. The disciples, and the church by extension, will be persecuted and rejected even as Jesus was. So how are we to think about persecution? How are we to respond?
When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour.
Matthew 10:19
