The Signs of the Times

Welcome to Chapel City Church! We are so glad that you have joined us for our time of corporate worship today. We are coming to the final extended teaching of Jesus in Matthew’s gospel. Chapter 24 and 25 include what is known as the Olivet Discourse. The disciples are filled with expectation and anticipation at this point. Jesus has told them that he will go to Jerusalem to be rejected and killed, but that he will be raised again. They have seen him enter the city to the praises of thousands, cleanse the temple with power, and answer the religious leaders with absolute authority. And yet, Jesus has told them that Jerusalem remains in rebellion, and that the temple itself is going to be torn down to its foundations. In their confusion, hope, and frustration, they ask an important question. When will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Christ’s coming and the end of the age. In the coming weeks we will work through the longest answer that the gospel writers give us to any question that Jesus was asked. When is the kingdom coming? How will we know? What are we supposed to do while we wait?
