Thank you for joining us for our time of worship together here at Chapel City Church. We are glad that you are with us and want to know how we can be praying for you and ministering to you. As we continue through Matthew 24 and the Olivet Discourse, we are going to come to the first specific answer that Jesus gives his disciples. They ask when things will happen, and what will be the sign of his coming and the end of the age. He initially prepares them for difficulties and struggles that will characterize all of history in an increasing way until the time of the kingdom. But in verse 15, Jesus tells them that something specific will be a sign that his coming is near. The prophet Daniel wrote about a coming abomination of desolation that would mark a time of trouble that will be unlike any other in human history. But what is Daniel talking about? What will it look like? And where is the comfort in knowing about real suffering?
For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be. And if those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved. But for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.
Matthew 24:21-22
