A Pastor’s Burden for His People

A Pastor’s Burden for His People

As we move into the second chapter of Colossians, Paul’s focus doesn’t seem to change much from what we learned about last week. He has talked about his ministry to the church, and what some essential characteristics of that ministry are. This week, we will look at the first 7 verses of chapter 2 and hear what Paul’s ministry works towards. If last week was the “how,” then this week might be seen as the “why.” Why does Paul work so hard, labor so diligently, suffer so joyfully? In short, it is his love for the savior and his love for the church. Because he loves them, he wants the best for them. And that desire is for internal maturity and external obedience. The wonderful thing is that we can pursue those same things. As we are all called to minister at some level among the body of Christ, these ought to be the things that we labor to see in the lives of those that we minister to. Also, they are a very helpful tool for evaluating how we as a church and as individuals are growing in our spiritual walk. Do you have questions? Do you wonder how you can be effective in the ministry that you have, or whether you are even equipped for ministry? We would love to hear from you!

For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not seen me face to face, that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ.
Colossians 2:1-2
