Today, we will begin by going back to the last two verses of the passage from last week. These two verses are the pivot point of the book and are worth a second look. Last week, Matt talked about the results we should see in our lives because we have received Christ Jesus as Lord. This week, we will focus on the truth that Jesus is enough for us. We don’t know all the details of the errors that were creeping in to the church at Colossae, because God’s word isn’t intended to satisfy our curiosity. Rather, it is intended to give us everything we need for life and godliness. Our world is full of voices that want to link Jesus to some cause: moral, political or economic. But Jesus Christ stands above all causes. The book of Colossians reminds us to find Christ, to live and walk with him, as our first priority.
See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. Colossians 2:8
