All in the Family?

All in the Family?

As we come to the end of Matthew chapter 12, we are faced with an important question. Who is a member of the family of God? We have been introduced to scribes and Pharisees, but for all their learning and position they are unwilling to understand who Christ is. We have crowds of people who are the beneficiaries of covenant promises made to their forefathers. But those crowds stand on the verge of rejecting the messiah that was promised to them. As the chapter comes to a close, the mother and brothers of Jesus approach the place where he is teaching. Jesus uses this instance to make a sweeping statement about who is actually in right relationship to him. And so the question remains, are we a part of the family? If you have questions or things that we can be praying for, please reach out and let us know.

While he was still speaking to the people, behold, his mother and his brothers stood outside, asking to speak to him. But he replied to the man who told him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?”
And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers!  For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

Matthew 12:46-50
