Welcome to our time of worship here at Chapel City Church. We have been working through Matthew’s gospel account, and we are in the middle of the passion week narrative. If you’ve missed a week or two, or are just joining us, we would encourage you to look at our website and catch up on sermons you may have missed. Over the last two weeks, we have worked through three parables of judgment that Jesus directed toward those who will reject Him. In the coming weeks, we will work through three challenges that are presented to him. This week will see the disciples of the Pharisees ask Jesus about whether it was right to pay taxes to Caesar. But why is that such a loaded question? How does it compel us to think through our response to those in authority over us?
And Jesus said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” They said, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
Matthew 22:20-21
