Judgement: Planks & Pigs

Judgement: Planks & Pigs

We have been working through the Sermon on the Mount, and this week we will open up Matthew chapter 7. The opening verses of this chapter contain some of the most often quoted words in the New Testament. “Judge not, that you not be judged” has made its way into movies, song lyrics, and family arguments over the dinner table. But what does Jesus mean when he calls his disciples to refrain from judging others? Is this simply a call to avoid condemning anyone for anything, or is there more to it? And how is this in any way connected to the almost equally well known phrase that follows it, “pearls before swine?” We hope that as we work through this passage together, you have an understanding of the serious nature of sin, the grace of God, and how these things impact the way that a disciple of Christ must live their lives. If there is a way that we can be praying for you, please let us know!

Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Matthew 7:1-2
