The Beatitudes: Blessed Are…part 1

The Beatitudes: Blessed Are…part 1

We are glad that you have come to worship with us this week. In our study of Matthew’s gospel, we have seen the presentation and testing of the King. Now, Jesus begins His public ministry that will involve two main components: teaching and healing. In the coming weeks we will work through the first and longest teaching section in the book of Matthew- The Sermon on the Mount. As we open up this wonderful discourse of Christ, we will see what it looks like to live as a citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven. We will understand the promises of hope and blessing that are present now, and await their fullness when the King reigns on His throne. And this week we will open up the first of the beatitudes, and we will look at the characteristics of those who are called blessed. We would love to know how we can be praying for you, or have the opportunity to answer any questions that you might have.

And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Matthew 5:2-6
