The Essentials: Discipleship

The Essentials: Discipleship

We are in the middle of a series of messages that work through the Mission, Core Values, and Strategies of our church. Sometimes, the things that we do as a church seem disconnected. Our core values are the things that should tie all of them together. This week, we will look at the third of our core values: discipleship. If we judge by their actions, many church members believe that discipleship is the responsibility of the professionals: pastors, teachers and missionaries. But scripture teaches us otherwise. Each believer in Jesus Christ has the responsibility of being both a disciple and a discipler. We will look at the example of Jesus himself in both those roles, then give some practical tips how we can practice discipleship in the church and in the home.

Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons.
Mark 3:13-15
