The Peril of Spiritual Pride

The Peril of Spiritual Pride

Welcome to Chapel City Church. We are glad that you’ve joined us for our time of corporate worship today. If you have any questions or specific items that we can pray for, please reach out and let us know. This week we will move on in Matthew 26 and look at the danger of spiritual pride. The disciples are still struggling to understand all that is going to happen in the coming hours. However, they are convinced that no matter what comes they will be able to stand firm in their devotion to Jesus. Peter is so convinced that he promises to remain with Christ even if it costs him his life. And yet, Jesus says that they will all fall away. Why do the disciples need to understand how vulnerable they are? How can Peter go from confidence to cowardice so quickly? And where is the comfort in a passage that seems so full of the promise of failure?

Peter answered him, “Though they all fall away because of you, I will never fall away.” Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” Matthew 26:33-34
