The signs of Christmas are beginning to appear. The streets are decorated, the church is dressed for the season, and even the weather is (slightly) cooler. All of these things come together and start to give us a sense of expectation. The anticipation of Christmas is one of the most wonderful parts of the season. But do we understand that anticipating Christmas doesn’t begin and end with us? From the opening chapters of the Bible, human history centered around the expectation and anticipation of one birth; the birth of Jesus Christ. What made this birth so different, this life so absolutely unique? In the coming weeks we will ask along with the famous Christmas carol “What Child is This?” And this week we will see that Jesus Christ, from His very first breath, was the fulfillment of God’s great promises made centuries earlier. He was the Son of Promise.
“She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).
