Two Roads, One Way: Part 2 – Two Trees

Two Roads, One Way: Part 2 – Two Trees

We are moving into the concluding portion of the Sermon on the Mount, and we see Jesus call for a response from those who hear Him. It is not enough to hear the proclamation of the kingdom; it is not enough to sit back and appreciate the sentiment or admire the speaker. The presentation of the kingdom of God demands a response. Last week, we saw that those who would be called disciples of Christ were to enter through the narrow way, to proceed along the narrow path. This week we come to the second in this series of contrasts: good trees and bad trees. Through a vivid visual that his audience would easily understand, he warns of the danger of false prophets. But what is a prophet and how do we discern whether they are good or bad? Why does it matter who claims to speak for God? If there is a way that we can be praying for you during this time, or if there is a need that we might be able to help meet, please reach out and let us know!

Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.  Thus you will recognize them by their fruits. Matthew 7:19-20
