Family for the Glory of God, Part 1: WIVES

As we work through Colossians 3, we have seen a number of ways that believers are called to live in light of their faith in Christ. We are to be a people who are kind and compassionate, humble and patient, meek and forgiving. We are called to be loving and peaceful in the midst of a world that is anything but loving and peaceful. This kind of change is only possible through the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. And this lifestyle isn’t something that we “put on” for our own benefit, but for the glory of God and our desire to be pleasing to Him. And over the next month or so, we will look at what it means to function as a family for the glory of God. Beginning in Colossians 3:18, Paul will address wives, husbands, children, parents, and our working relationships. Many of the biblical principles that we see outlined here and in other related passages are directly contrary to what the world around us sees as good and normal. However, we are not called to pattern our lives after the standards of the world. We are called to think biblically, and to pursue obedience to the high calling that God has placed on our lives. I would encourage you to pray for the marriages in our church. I would encourage you to think deeply about how your God given role can be a blessing for your family, no matter what stage of life or situation you are in. And we would certainly encourage you to ask questions and let us know how we can be praying with you and for you.

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
Colossians 3:17-18
