Family for the Glory of God: Part 5 – Divorce & Singleness

Family for the Glory of God: Part 5 – Divorce & Singleness

We are moving through the Book of Colossians, and we have come to the portion of chapter 3 that deals with families. Over the last 4 weeks we have looked at the ways in which we honor God as wives, husbands, children, and parents. We have seen that in all of these things our primary response is toward God in worship as we live out the roles that He has called us to. But what happens when we don’t fit neatly into that family unit? What do we do with the very real, and often painful, reality of divorce or singleness? Paul does not address these things in Colossians, but he does so clearly in other passages. This week, we will look at 1 Corinthians 7 and come to a biblical understanding of marriage, divorce, and singleness. We recognize that there are hurts and emotions that can make this kind of study difficult. Above all, we want to be informed by God’s word as to how we think about these things. We want to be clear and truthful, and we want to present those biblical truths in love and grace. If you have questions or concerns, please know that we would love to follow up with you and talk. If there is a way that we can be praying for you and with you, we would love the opportunity to do that.

I say this for your own benefit, not to lay any restraint upon you, but to promote good order and to secure your undivided devotion to the Lord.  1 Corinthians 7:35
