Presenting the King

Presenting the King

We are so glad that you are here to worship with us today. We are working through the Gospel of Matthew, and we have already been introduced to some very important themes and ideas. Jesus is presented as the promised son of Abraham who will bless the nations. He is shown to be the son of David, the coming King of Kings. He is Immanuel, God with us, worthy of worship. As we come to Matthew 3:13-17, we begin the public ministry of Jesus Christ. But this king does not come in royal splendor with armies and attendants. He comes first to be baptized by John. But why would he do that? How is it that the baptism of Jesus presents him as both the exalted king and the humble servant? We would love to answer any questions that you might have, and help you think through what it means to respond rightly to Jesus Christ. Reach out and let us know how we can be ministering to you.

And behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:17
