The Fight for Freedom

The Fight for Freedom

Welcome to our time of worship here at Chapel City Church. As we open God’s word to Galatians 5, we will continue to think through what it means to live in the freedom that Christ has given us. Last week we saw that our freedom was not for selfish gain, but that it was an opportunity to serve others in love. But where do we get the ability to do that? If our flesh is naturally bent toward what is selfish and rebellious, how can we as believers do what is good and obedient in the Lord’s sight? The short answer is that we can’t- at least without help. We are a people who are dependent upon the Holy Spirit to provide the spiritual resources to walk in the freedom that we have been given. So, what will it look like to fight against the flesh? Who is the Holy Spirit, and how does the Spirit enable the believer to do what’s right?

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.

Galatians 5:16-18
